Private landlords may choose to specialise on providing accommodation to working age tenants dependant on income related benefits or on benefit support as a result of disability/ill health. However, all landlords may, from time to time, experience tenants claiming benefits as a result of a significant change of circumstance – for example being made redundant from work. The gradual replacement of legacy benefits including Local Housing Allowance by Universal Credit is increasingly creating new challenges for landlords and letting agents. This half day course explains the ever-changing benefits system in the UK and sets out some guidelines, procedures and creative suggestions as to how you can minimise risks of rent arrears as a result of tenants experiencing issues claiming benefits.
